WHAT HAPPENS IF ATLANTIC BROADBAND ISN'T READY TO GO WHEN THE COMCAST CONTRACT EXPIRES IN JUNE OF 2019?

David Israel told everyone that there's no way Comcast would cut off our cable TV if Atlantic broadband isn't ready .
That's sort of  true. Comcast wouldn't do that.
According to Comcast Executives : What they would do is continue service but  make everyone pay retail prices instead of the bulk price we enjoy right now. Your association won't be getting the bill. You will be getting it.and you will be responsible to pay it. That means you and everyone else will have to recover the money from Atlantic Broadband. Just how they plan to do that is not clear, but it looks like a logistical nightmare.
Not only that : If we switch to Atlantic, everyone has to take  their Comcast box back to their office. Comcast won't be picking them up. We should instruct Atlantic to take them back after they switch their gear for Comcast's.
Atlantic says they will pick up the tab in the interim  if they aren't ready to go. Whether or not they know they will be paying retail price or are basing that declaration on the bulk price should be made clear in their contract proposal.

  2. I read both of the draft contracts carefully and they seem very similar when all is considered. Of the two I would prefer Comcast but only because the service would start in a few months rather than two years. What concerns me in both of the contract offers is the "Beautification Money." 3.5 million from Atlantic or 2.8 million from Comcast. If that money went to the individual units, either as a lump sum or towards the first years cable bills that would be ok. But going to UCO is not right. I am also afraid that since it is so much money, a lot of shady dealing could occur. The fact that the president and some key UCO members seem so biased towards Atlantic makes me suspicious. It would be better if the funds went directly to the individual units or to lower the overall fees. This is an issue that should be followed up on.

  3. I am a snowbird from Canada. I would like to share with you that Atlantic's proposal seems very interesting to me. First of all because it was not forced as it is the case of Comcast which seems to react only. Atlantic has done a considerable amount of work to offer a very interesting deal. Comcast has only tied it up, at every step by generally offering a little less. Atlantic seems to listen to its customers, which is not the case most of the time for Comcast.
For the snowbirds (are not we half the owners of the Century Village?) Atlantic's offer is much easier (opt in-out). In addition, French channels are included in the offer, and Canadian channels (in addition to Spanish channels, etc.) are included.
Yet I understand very well those who like you prefer Comcast. "Better than the devil we know ...".
The main advantage of Comcast is the time of entry into force: NOW! When you live in Century Village and you do not know how many years you have left to live, immediately enjoy immediate discounts, HD TV at no extra cost or the internet at a little cheaper. Irresistible. I understand.
With respect to the delays in delivering to Atlantic, I do not think that's a serious argument. The contract can include penalties that would compensate residents for the additional costs they would incur.
As for the strength of the Cogeco parent company, it's like comparing Costco to Sams Club. Both are solid even though Walmart is bigger.
With respect to the use of funds by UCO, I agree with you that this serves to reduce the monthly fees of residents. But that's another question ...

    1. If you go to Atlantic's website you won't find too much about them here in the United States (boy are we giving them a huge leg up here in the U.S.) BUT if you go to their Canadian site (afterall they are a Canadian company) the complaints are HUGE! So many, I stopped reading them.

FOLLOW THE MONEY EVERYONE!, David Israel and the UCO team are not going to Atlantic for their great public relations, they are going with them because of the amount of MONEY they will get. What we want, and what we will get, are two different sides to the coin. Has everyone forgotten how David Israel pushed for our Village to take on Comcast and how upset so many of us were? Remember the millions of dollars UCO received. This t.v. fiasco has become a monolopy, you MUST pay for what UCO is choosing, in your budget! What if you aren't happy and you want to have Dish or something else? Yes, you can have it but then you will be paying two bills not one.

Why are people saying "things are not the same in C.V."? Well, I for one think it's because UCO has become too big for it's britches. We no longer have a say. Yes, the delegates vote FOR us, but do they also Listen to us? It doesn't appear to be that way.
